Ballard Box
Seattle, WA
This speculative project builds on a single-story, 1940s wood-frame house. The design adds a new second floor for bedrooms and renovates the existing 1940s box to make fluid indoor/outdoor living spaces at the ground level. The renovation largely retains the small footprint of the existing structure, but reorients the house to take advantage of site opportunities, including expanded outdoor living rooms, passive solar exposure, natural ventilation, and views of the Ballard Bridge, Ship Canal, and Mt. Rainier.
