Tongue-and-groove wood walls, benches, and cantilevered tables are a tactile addition to this brick-lined Pioneer Square restaurant and nightclub. The dynamic, uneven luster of red-stained wood transforms the scale of the cavernous space, while translucent boxes of light, set beneath the spare furniture, provide an underlying glow. Inspired by the client’s desire for an intimate café that would convert into a nightclub after-hours, the cantilevered tables were designed to fold up into the walls, making room for the conversion from dinner to late-night.
